Camera & Microphone Permissions for HeyPeers Meetings

HeyPeers Meetings run directly in your web browser. When you click JOIN from your My Meetings page or any calendar on the HeyPeers, the meeting loads on HeyPeers.com. Your browser may ask for permission to use your camera and microphone. These permissions must be set to Allow for you to be seen and heard.

This guide explains how to allow camera and microphone access on the most common browsers and devices.

How Permissions Work in HeyPeers Meetings

The first time you join a meeting, your browser may display a prompt asking:
  • “Allow camera access?”
  • “Allow microphone access?”
You must select Allow for both.

If your browser or device has your camera or microphone set to Block instead of Allow, you won’t be able to turn on your video or unmute yourself during the meeting. Your controls will appear disabled, and you may see a message indicating that HeyPeers doesn’t have permission to access your camera or microphone. To participate fully, you’ll need to update your browser permissions and refresh the meeting page.

The following browser specific instructions walk you through how to unblock your camera and/or microphone.

Google Chrome (Windows & macOS)

When the meeting loads
Chrome will show a permission prompt near the address bar.
Select Allow while visiting this site.
If you need to update permissions manually
1. Click the browser's three‑dot menu (upper‑right).
2. Select Settings.
3. Go to Privacy and Security, then select Site Settings.
4. Select Camera or Microphone.
5. Look under Allowed or Not allowed for "https://heypeers.com:443" and click on it to open the site permissions.
6. Change the setting to Allow.

7. Refresh the meeting page.
Note:  If you see both "heypeers.com" and "www.heypeers.com," set both to Allow.

  3. Tap Settings, then select Site Settings.

    7. Refresh the meeting page

    Safari (iPhone, iPad, macOS)

Safari asks for permissions the first time you join a meeting.

    iPhone / iPad
    1. Open the Settings app.
    2. Scroll to Safari.
    3. Tap Camera, then select Allow.
    4. Tap Microphone, then select Allow.
    5. Return to your meeting and refresh.

    macOS (Safari on Mac)

    7. Refresh the meeting page.

    macOS System Permissions (Mac computers)

macOS may block access even if your browser allows it.
    1. Open the Apple menu. Select System Settings.
    2. Go to Privacy & Security.
    3. Select Camera. Enable access for your browser.
    4. Select Microphone. Enable access for your browser.
    5. If you plan to share your screen, enable Screen Recording for your browser.
    6. Restart your browser and rejoin the meeting.

If You Opened the Meeting from an App

Some apps (Gmail, Yahoo Mail, Facebook, Instagram, etc.) open links inside their own in‑app browser, which cannot access your camera or microphone. If your camera or mic won’t turn on, open the meeting in your regular browser instead.

How to open the meeting in your browser
    1. Look for a menu inside the app’s viewer
(this may be a three‑dot menu, share icon, or Open in… button).
    2. Choose Open in browser or Open in Chrome/Safari/Edge.
    3. The meeting will reopen in your regular browser.
    4. Rejoin the meeting and allow camera/microphone access when prompted.

If Your Camera or Microphone Still Don’t Work

    Try these quick fixes:
    • Refresh the meeting page
    • Quit and reopen your browser
    • Restart your device
    • Try a different browser (Chrome is recommended)
    • Close other apps that may be using your camera (Zoom, Teams, FaceTime, etc.)
