In‑Meeting Tools for Participant Engagement (Zoom Meetings)
Zoom provides several tools that help participants engage during your meeting. This guide gives a simple overview of each tool, where it appears, and how participants can access it.
Raise Hand
What it does
The Raise Hand tool lets participants signal that they would like to speak or ask a question without interrupting the meeting.
How to access
Click Reactions (bottom tool bar), then select Raise Hand.

A hand icon will appear next to the participant's name in the Participants panel as well as in the participant's video box.
Group Leader Note
Group Leaders can lower a participant’s raised hand at any time.
Open Participants, hover over the participant’s name, click the hand icon.

Reaction Emojis
What they do
Reaction emojis allow participants to give quick, non‑verbal feedback such as thumbs up, clapping, or smiling. The emojis will appear in the participant's video panel and next to their name in the participants list. Emoji reactions will disappear after 10 seconds

What it does
The chat tool allows participants to send written messages to the group.

Click Chat in the bottom toolbar.

This opens the chat panel. Type your message and press Enter.
Screen Sharing
What it does
Screen sharing allows Group Leaders (Hosts) to share their screen during the meeting.

How to access
Click Share Screen, then choose the window or screen you want to share. You can share your entire desktop, specific applications, a portion of your screen, or other content.

To stop sharing, click the Stop Share button found at the top of the Zoom meeting window.
