Managing the Waiting Room in Zoom Meetings
The Waiting Room is a feature that controls when participants can enter your meeting. If the waiting room is turned on, participants cannot enter the meeting until you admit them. This article explains how to manage the waiting room during your Zoom meeting.
What you see as the host
When someone enters the waiting room, you will see a notification that a participant is waiting with the participant’s display name.
If the Participant Panel is not open, the notification will appear on the top of the video pane.

If you have the Participant's Panel open, the notification will display at the top of the participant list.

Admitting Participants
You can admit participants in two ways:
① Admit from the notification
Click Admit on the banner that appears when someone joins the waiting room.
① Admit from the notification
Click Admit on the banner that appears when someone joins the waiting room.

② Admit from the Participants panel
- Open the Participants panel
- Look for the Waiting Room section at the top
- Hover your mouse over the participant's name to reveal the Admit and Remove buttons. Click Admit.

Note: If there are more than one participant in the waiting room, you will also see an Admit All option. Choose this if you want to allow all participants to join the meeting.
What a Participant Sees
When the waiting room is enabled, participants who click Join are placed in the waiting room instead of entering the meeting. Zoom displays a message letting them know the host will let them in soon. They remain in the waiting room until you admit them.

Comparing the Waiting Room to the Registration Roster
Zoom does not display the registration roster inside the Zoom meeting window. However, HeyPeers provides a convenient workaround. When you click Enter Meeting from the meeting’s Join page, the Zoom meeting opens in a new window, and the Join page remains open in the original window.
In the top corner of the Join page, click Settings, then select Registered Users from the drop‑down menu. This opens the meeting’s registration roster in a new window, allowing you to compare the names in the Zoom waiting room with the official list of registered participants.
